    Pollutants WILL Harm the Skin

    Pollutants WILL Harm the Skin

City dwellers in particular need to take note – that seemingly healthy walk to work could be causing more damage than you think. Pollution is one of the most harmful sources of damage to the skin. The dirt, smog and dust in the environment comes into contact with the sun’s UV rays creating free radicals.

These highly charged molecules damage the skin and the body attacking cells and damaging DNA. Pollution in the air and in water can strip the skin of moisture, resulting in the creation of fine lines, wrinkles and discoloration. Long term damage due to the environment include skin allergies such as eczema, as well as skin having a grey, dull appearance.

We can all take steps to safeguard our environment, such as recycling and using less energy. However when it comes to combating pollution’s effect on the skin we need immediate solutions. These include daily cleansing using a gentle yet efficient cleanser, and using a protective moisturizer. Using products that contain anti-oxidants have also been found to be effective at combating pollutants in the skin. Using Dead Sea Premier’s cleansing gel is a great first step on the road to removing nasty pollutants. Afterwards you could lavish skin with nutrients in the form of one of the many protective facial moisturizers in their line of products.

Change Your Lifestyle to Minimize Risk to Skin

Changing our lifestyle can have clear benefits when it comes to protecting our skin from pollutants. These include limiting the time spent in heavily chlorinated water, always wearing a sunscreen on the face and neck, and taking a daily vitamin C supplement. It’s also recommended to stay hydrated, since water keeps skin cells healthy, improves circulation and improves the skin’s elasticity.

One definite no-no is smoking if you want to keep your skin healthy and looking good, since this narrows the blood vessels, impeding blood flow and depleting oxygen and essential nutrients. Smoking damages both the collagen and elastin in the skin causing it to wrinkle prematurely. If you smoke - give it up!
